Let’s get set for the 3 day weekend Stateside!
Our Labor Day Weekend Issue highlights Google’s announcement of Duet, their response to Microsoft’s Copilot, which effectively put everyone on notice the G-Suite isn’t going anywhere in the Corporate Enterprise market. For those watching and who understand Google’s pedigree when it comes to AI, this launch comes as no surprise. The ensuing battle will be fun to watch.
In other news, American’s as a whole don’t really use or understand specific forms of AI, funding for AI startups is through the roof, and Call of Duty is apparently tired of in game trash talk (which is one of the more fun parts of the game, to be honest).

Google vs Microsoft - An AI Battle for Enterprise Level Clients Begins

The intensifying rivalry between Google Duet and Microsoft Copilot marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of AI-assisted technology. Unveiled at this week's Google Cloud Next Conference, Duet is poised to go head-to-head with Microsoft's Copilot AI assistant, specifically tailored for Microsoft 365 Corporate Teams. This competitive landscape is ripe for fostering rapid innovations in AI and will ultimately enrich the user experience.
Duet, designed to seamlessly integrate with Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Drive, Slides, and Docs, brings a plethora of functionalities to the table. From translating documents across various Google platforms to crafting articulate email responses and generating visual content, Duet aims to be a game-changer. With over a million users participating in pre-launch testing, the assistant is committed to streamlining and enhancing the utility of standard Workspace apps in corporate settings.
Duet enters the Corporate Enterprise space at a $30 user/month price tag, matching Copilot's Enterprise rate. While this pricing shows Google's intent to secure a foothold in the corporate world, the ongoing deliberation over costs for smaller firms hints at a broader vision for scalability and widespread adoption.
While both Google Duet and Microsoft Copilot are based on AI models that are still works in progress they are being marketed as professional tools. However, users are advised to double-check work put through these assistants as the language models they are built on are known for generating false information, among other issues.
The caution advised for using these AI assistants in a corporate setting is noteworthy. It raises questions about the reliability and trustworthiness of AI in professional environments. As these tools become more integrated into our work, the stakes for accuracy and reliability will only get higher.
Most American’s Don’t Believe ChatGPT Will Affect Their Job

User Adoption and Demographics
New research suggests American’s aren’t overly worried about their jobs being impacted by AI. In a recent study, 18% of U.S. adults have used ChatGPT with younger and college-educated individuals leading the way. 40% of adults under 30 who are aware of ChatGPT have used it, compared to just 5% of those 65 and older. Gender also plays a role, with men being more likely to use ChatGPT than women (29% vs. 19%).
The adoption rate and demographic trends reveal that ChatGPT and similar technologies are gaining traction, especially among younger and more educated individuals. This could indicate a generational shift in how people interact with technology, with younger adults being more open to AI-based interactions. The gender gap, however, suggests that there may be barriers or perceptions that deter women from using such technology, which warrants further investigation.
Industry Impact
Americans believe that chatbots like ChatGPT will most significantly impact jobs requiring a college education, such as software engineers (56%), graphic designers (54%), and journalists (52%). However, only 19% of employed adults think chatbots will have a major impact on their own jobs. Interestingly, those in the information and technology sector are the most likely to foresee a significant impact, with 75% believing chatbots will affect their work.
The perception that AI will impact "higher-level" jobs is a notable shift from the traditional view that automation primarily threatens manual labor. However, the disconnect between the general belief and personal impact suggests a form of "automation bias," where people think their own jobs are safe while others are at risk. This could lead to a lack of preparedness for the inevitable changes that AI will bring to various industries.
